Grace

Quan Yin - Our Lady of Compassion

Grace is little understood. In Christianity, it is an assumed divine intervention that forgives you for your mortal sin.  God forgives you when you return to the fold of the church.  This is not grace.

Grace comes on the heels of a learned karmic lesson. Grace intervenes to bring an end to pain and suffering only to the extent that one takes personal responsibility and stands up to the abuse that causes him/her harm. If the abuse requires restraining orders or prosecution, or is related to childhood experience, then the person needs to seek out the right kind of help and therapy.

In some cases a person harms another, which results in personal suffering through guilt. By taking responsibility to undo the harm as much as possible and dedicating to performing good works, grace will intervene and bring joy back into the person’s life. For example, a person who causes the death of another while under the influence of drugs or alcohol may then commit him or herself to educating others about harm that can be done under the influence.

Forgiveness

Without forgiveness, there can be very little joy and happiness in our lives. Forgiveness is the first step in healing. In many cases harm was done unintentionally in early childhood, which requires some form of somatic therapy to discover the injury. Even the birthing process can be injurious to us.  Then as adults we are totally unaware of these injuries that in some cases cause phobias or unexplained fear.  It is very difficult to live this life and not be hurt or emotionally damaged in some way. Forgiveness, both forgiving our self and others, is as necessary to life as water. Without forgiveness there is very little joy and happiness we can obtain in our lives. Again I personally can attest to that forgiveness requires constant effort and can expect many relapse.
